The Holly and the Ivy The holly and the ivy, When they are both full grown, Of all the trees that are in the wood, The holly bears the crown. The rising of the sun And the running of the deer, The playing of the merry organ, Sweet singing in the choir. The holly bears the blossom, As white as the lily flower, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ To be our sweet Saviour: The rising of the sun And the running of the deer, The playing of the merry organ, Sweet singing in the choir. The holly bears a berry, As red as any blood, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ To do poor sinners good: The rising of the sun And the running of the deer, The playing of the merry organ, Sweet singing in the choir. The holly bears a prickle, As sharp as any thorn, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ On Christmas day in the morn. The rising of the sun And the running of the deer, The playing of the merry organ, Sweet singing in the choir. The holly bears a bark, As bitter as any gall, And Mary bore sweet Jesus Christ For to redeem us all: The rising of the sun And the running of the deer, The playing of the merry organ, Sweet singing in the choir.

Good King Wenceslas looked out on the feast of Stephen When the snow lay round about deep and crisp and even Brightly shown the moon that night though the frost was cruel When a poor man came in sight gathering winter fuel "Hither, page, and stand by me, if thou know'st it, telling, Yonder peasant, who is he? Where and what his dwelling?" "Sire, he lives a good league hence, underneath the mountain; Right against the forest fence, by Saint Agnes' fountain." "Bring me flesh, and bring me wine, bring me pine logs hither: Thou and I will see him dine, when we bear them thither." Page and monarch, forth they went, forth they went together; Through the rude wind's wild lament and the bitter weather. "Sire, the night is darker now, and the wind blows stronger; Fails my heart, I know not how, I can go no longer." Mark my footsteps, good my page; tread thou in them boldly: Thou shalt find the winter's rage freeze thy blood less coldly." In his master's steps he trod, where the snow lay dinted; Heat was in the very sod which the saint had printed. Therefore, Christian men, be sure, wealth or rank possessing, Ye who now will bless the poor, shall yourselves find blessing.

about

It was suggested Christmas releases are popular. I made one. Just quickly, here in my home.

The Holly and The Ivy was always the best melody, and the running deer imagery and the woodland is just so nice. I sing it to myself often. I also rediscovered Good King Wenceslas, albeit adapting it from the urgent way we used to chant it at school.
